Stefany Valderrama Education
Stefany graduated from Georgia Southern University, in Statesboro, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a minor in Spanish. A few years after graduating, Stefany helped start the “MMJ For a Day” program at the university for students to participate in a newsroom setting and work alongside professionals in the industry. This program has helped launch the careers of many students from producers to on-air talent.
As a student at Georgia Southern University Stefany has worked for the George-Anne newspaper. She has been published twice and has earned the front page on her first published news article about the social media app Yik Yak. Stefany has been a member of the Spanish Club and a sister of Alpha Omicron Pi. She has been recognized on the Dean’s List and President’s List for her outstanding GPA. She has also been a student Spanish peer tutor in the Foreign Language Department.

Valderrama is an anchor and general assignment reporter working for CBS12 News. She covered upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina for WSPA-TV in Greenville, South Carolina, before relocating to South Florida as a reporter and stand-in anchor. Stefany covered the state’s deteriorating infrastructure when she was in Greenville, but her favorite piece was “Bone Marrow for Maci.” Maci, a 1-year-old who needed a bone marrow transplant, was able to discover a perfect match donor thanks to Stefany’s reporting and receiving the procedure.
This gave Maci a second chance at life. Stefany’s first job was at WJBF-TV in Augusta, Georgia, where she covered the CSRA and Aiken County. Stefany and her photographer covered an EF-2 tornado that devastated the South Carolina town of Johnston while reporting from Augusta, and they were nominated for and received an AP Award for ‘Small Market: Best Spot News’ reporting.
Since joining CBS12 News, Stefany has reported extensively on the pandemic and even subjected herself to a vaccine trial to better explain the vaccine research process to viewers. In January 2023, her employees selected her as “employee of the week” in recognition of her dedication to accuracy and fairness. During her free time, she loves spending time outside at the beach or pool, listening to a podcast, reading thriller novels, and most importantly taking plenty of pictures of her dog Coco Butter Puff.
