Sager revealed her diagnosis of breast cancer through an Eyewitness News special in the spring of 1999. She stated that she was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 30 years old. Sager also said that it was a distinctive, 1st-person account of the difficult decision-making process faced by young ladies in crisis. She underwent treatments but she was diagnosed with another cancer in the spring of 2011.

Sager’s docs found pre-invasive ovarian cancer in her fallopian tubes’ linings, and she was diagnosed with a genetic mutation, BRCA1, which increases the risk of ovarian and breast cancer. Sager however recovered fully, and she always urges women at risk to go for screening for genetic mutations that cause these cancers.

She serves at various organizations like TEALWALK and the Basser Center. This organization is committed to helping women with BRCA-related cancers and ovarian cancer. Sager has worked with ‘Pink Aid,’ an organization dedicated to raising funds for women battling breast cancer. She also participates in the American Cancer Society’s annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk, which is committed to raising millions of dollars for breast cancer research and awareness. The American Cancer Society has cited Sager’s volunteer work.
