Sam began working for KSL 5 in 1997 while he was a senior at BYU and engaged in an internship. After earning his degree, he was recruited right away and began working as a news producer before switching to reporting. Since 2000, he has been based at the KSL5 Utah County News Bureau. Sam worked for KMTI Radio while in high school and had an early interest in broadcasting. Additionally, he oversaw the Snow College radio station.
