Sam Champion (real name – Samuel James Champion) is an American Emmy Award-winning Meteorologist and Reporter working for WABC in New York City as a Weather Anchor. He joined the station in the year 1988.

Prior to joining the station, he served at WPSD-TV in Paducah, Kentucky as a news reporter and weekend news anchor. He started his journalism career at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky where he worked as an intern.

Champion began serving as an anchor for Good Morning America in the year 2006. As a Weather Editor, Champion built ABC News’s Environment Unit, Climate, and Weather. He was also responsible for overseeing all environmental content and coverage on all platforms of ABC. Champion started working for The Weather Channel in the year 2012, as the managing editor. There he also served as a host and creator of a 4-hour morning show, AMHQ, and a climate and science interview program in prime time, 23.5. While in college, he interned at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky.

Champion holds several awards for his work, including 4 Emmy Awards. Also, he holds a Peabody Award for his “Sandy Coverage.” In the year 2019, he went back to WABC and began anchoring the weather on Eyewitness News This Morning.
