Raj is a reporter and anchor at FOX 2 Detroit in Michigan. He anchors 5 p.m newscasts. Prior to joining the FOX 2 Detroit News team, he worked at WDSU-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana. During his working time there, he served the station as a weekday morning main anchor.
He developed his love and passion for journalism at the very young age of 14 when he produced and hosted his own television program in Troy, Michigan. During his first two years at Michigan State University, he was on the air at the CBS & ABC stations in Lansing, Michigan. From there, he was hired to anchor the news in Flint, Michigan. While there, he worked for four years doing news and weather. After some time, he joined NBC in New Orleans and worked there for seven years. After 24 hurricanes including Katrina, he moved to Detroit in ‘09 where an economic storm was brewing. In addition to that, he is an ardent believer in the city’s future.
During the 2020 elections, FOX 2 led the way bringing more exclusives than any other station in town. He nailed it with three exclusive one-on-one interviews with then-candidate Joe Biden, one on one exclusives with former President Trump, and one-on-one with Trump for 15 minutes at the White House in the Rose Garden. After getting access to candidate Kamala Harris in Detroit, he decided to call the White House and ask if former VP Pence would be game for a phone interview.
He believes getting exclusives is about building relationships with people. Raj is much committed to continuing this connection with his community so that they can bring stories that you won’t see anywhere else. Apart from his journalism career, he is also a keynote speaker and a public speaking coach. He headlined with his talk highlighting the gifts of rejection at TEDxDetroit in 2019.
During his leisure time, he likes reading, traveling, and cooking. On the other side, he hates wearing winter caps but he loves a good baseball cap on the weekends as we hack around parks throughout the area.
