Rick Henry is an American Anchor/Reporter/Director working for WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina as a Sports Director. He joined the station in 1988. He previously worked as a sports director at WPDE-TV in Florence, SC.

After graduating from McBee High School with a high school diploma, he attended The University of South Carolina where he graduated in 1977 with Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. Rick was the school’s first African American Valedictorian. He concluded his USC career by being named an Outstanding Senior.

Henry is the sports director for WIS-TV. He joined the station as an anchor and reporter in 1988. Afterwards, in 1996 he became the sports director. He began his career in the year 1981 in Florence, SC at WPDE-TV where he was hired as sports director. He became the first African American to serve as Sports Director for a South Carolina Television station.
During his time at WPDE Rick did play-by-play for an ABC telecast of a college football game between South Carolina State and Grambling. His first broadcasting job was working in Hartsville, SC with WHSC radio. Besides his duties as a disc jockey, he did play-by-play for High School basketball and baseball games. Being an award-winning journalist, he was named by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association as the 1999 Sportscaster of the year.
Later in 2005 Henry Sportscast was selected by the Associated Press as the best in South Carolina. He has also received two prestigious Emmy awards. He was also named to the University of South Carolina College of Journalism’s “Diamond Circle”, joining a national group of esteemed individuals chosen for outstanding contributions to their field in 1998. His has covered some of the world’s biggest sporting events such as The Masters, The Super Bowl, The Ryder Cup, The World Series, the 1996 Summer Olympics, The Daytona 500, The NCAA Basketball tournament and the NBA Playoffs. Rick is also active in the community. During his free time, he enjoys working out, spending time with his family, and playing golf.
