Rogers is a news anchor for WRDW News 12 First at 5, News 12 at 6 O’clock, & 11 o’clock. He’s been in TV news since 1981 and has won a number of awards over the years. In 2017 he received a Silver Circle Lifetime Achievement award by the National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter. He has also been named by the Georgia Associated Press as the Best Anchor and Best TV Personality by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters. His awards include a GABBY for his tour of the James Brown Estate and AP awards for “Best Newscast,” “Best Feature” and “Best Series.”
Before coming to News 12, Richard worked at WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, Fla., WWAY-TV in Wilmington, N.C., and WTOC-TV and WSAV-TV in Savannah, Ga as a news anchor. Since he came to Augusta, he has anchored many live events for News 12, including the Olympic Torch Run, the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, and The Masters. He has also reported dozens of live breaking news events, such as hurricanes and the Atlanta Olympic games. He won for News 12 a prestigious national Edward R. Murrow Award due to his field anchoring from the scene of a plane crash in Augusta.
Rogers is a member of the Augusta Rotary Club and North Augusta’s First Baptist Church. He is a volunteer reader for local schools and community organizations including The Alzheimer’s Association, United Way, The Lydia Project and Special Olympics. He is also a drummer who’s performed with News 12’s in-house band “Breaking News”, and the Augusta Amusements Big Band.” He has also volunteered as a narrator for the Savannah River Winds and Symphony Orchestra Augusta. During his free time, he enjoys playing the drums, playing golf, spending time with his family, listening to music (preferably on vinyl), and hang out on the Georgia coast.
