Williams is a meteorologist at WITN-TV in Greenville, North Carolina. He forecasts the weather on WITN each Monday through Friday at Noon and produces Phillip’s Weather Trivia questions for his weathercasts at Noon, many of which are then blogged about on WITN.com. Prior to joining the WITN First Alert weather team, he worked at another local television station for 21 years as a meteorologist.
His love and passion for weather began at a young age, he knew he would become a meteorologist at around the age of 5 or 6. He learned the word Meteorologist as the big one. While growing up, he once fell off his older brother’s bike right before a hailstorm hit with golf ball-sized hail. Williams and the weather felt somehow connected. After that, he learned all he could about the weather. He listened to his Grandfather Williams tell stories about the big snowstorms of the 1920s, August gusts (hurricanes), and sun dogs.
In 1988, he became the chief meteorologist with the CBS station in Greenville. While still continuing his television career, he was teaching a “Weather and Climate” course at East Carolina University, and in 1998 he shared his fascination with the weather. This is one of his career highlights, he was invited to the White House to attend a seminar on global weather and to hear private speeches by the President and Vice President. He has represented coastal North Carolina at a Governor’s Hurricane Conference and attended several international weather conferences.
Williams has served on the board of directors of the non-profit empowerment Life of NC and also served on the Winterville Watermelon Festival Committee for many years. He also volunteered as a tutor, teaching adults to read with Pitt Literacy. Furthermore, he is a volunteer on the board of directors of Greenville Public Access Television currently. He added an active Realtor to his list of accomplishments in 2009. In addition to that, he founded his own real estate company in early 2016. This company helps people buy and sell homes in and around Pitt County.
Williams is a spectator, he loves sports. Since the 1990s, he has been commissioner of a fantasy football league. He has also won some tennis trophies years ago. During his leisure time, he likes watching meteor showers, going to the beach, traveling, seeing movies, and gardening. In addition to that, he enjoys listening to music and playing with his 2 dogs, Tag and Dash.
