Phil Black Biography
Phil Black is an Australian journalist currently working as an International Correspondent based in the London bureau. In April 2007, Black joined CNN and reported news across Europe. He was part of the CNN team monitoring the Russian-Georgian war that erupted over separatist South Ossetia in 2008.

Black was CNN International’s Russia reporter based in Moscow until his deployment to London. In this role, he focused on a variety of high-profile reports from the area, including the landslide re-election of Vladimir Putin as president and the infamous arrest and imprisonment of Pussy Riot, the protest punk party.
Most lately, Black has played a central role in CNN’s coverage of the Ukrainian crisis, from his coverage of the Maidan protests in Kiev to his coverage of violence in Donetsk between pro-Russian separatists and government troops. Black was also on the scene at the crashed Flight MH17 crash spot, broadcasting about the collision and its aftermath. Black has been honored twice at the 2014 AIB awards for his work on this story and the killing of an anti-government activist in Independence Square.
In April 2007, Black joined CNN International as a freelance correspondent and has reported on several reports for the network, including the massacres in the Finnish classroom, the McCartney-Mills divorce trials, the alleged terror attacks in London, the hunt for Madeleine McCann, and the investigation into Princess Diana. Black spent seven years at Seven News in Sydney as a reporter for Australia’s highest-rated news program, where he covered the Sri Lankan Asian Tsunami, prior to joining CNN International.
Black started his career as a researcher on Australia’s Channel Nine ‘Getaway’ show, where he worked with strategic logistics for crews filming worldwide travel stories. He spent five years with the channel and worked as both a producer and later as a reporter. This time saw him shift steadily with Seven News into his first correspondent job. Collectively, Black brings with him more than 10 years of news and manufacturing experience.
