After a period of time, he landed a similar position outside of Boston, one of the nation’s top private forecasting companies, Weather Services Corporation. He helped develop USA Today’s familiar color weather page. Dellegatto provided meteorological information for clients like public works departments across the northeast, more than 50 radio stations across the country, and the Boston Red Sox.
Dellegatto also worked for WGME-TV in Portland, Maine. He joined in 1984 and worked as a Meteorologist. He became the chief meteorologist in 1997 when legendary meteorologist Roy Leep retired. Dellegatto is the longest-tenured chief meteorologist on Tampa Bay television. He is one of the top television weather departments in the country and has continued WTVT’s legacy of being a weather pioneer. In addition, he was the first meteorologist to show the various spaghetti models that illustrate the complexity of tracking tropical systems in the country.
Under his leadership, FOX 13 continued to be a weather innovator. He adds ultra-high resolution satellite pictures utilizing McIDAS HD. FOX 13 WTVT receives satellite pictures directly from space via its earth tracking station and that has made it the only station in the country. Tropical meteorology and severe weather are his weather passion which serves his viewers well. During his leisure time, he likes visiting civic groups and school to talk about the fascinating science of meteorology.
