Upon completion of his high school education, Harvey went on to join Metropolitan State College in Denver. While there, he took a major in Aerospace Science. Further, he at Mississippi State University, and after completing his undergraduate studies, he became its alumnus with a degree in Meteorology. Additionally, while in college he learned to fly Cessna 152s.
Moreover, his initial job out of college was with Jeppesen–Sandersen Aerospace which he left to serve as a full-time rugby player. For 12 years, he played rugby and partook in many international matches. While in high school he played football and wore #88 which is coincidentally the number of his favorite player, Lynn Swann.

Withal, he served as a navigator on an Ice Breaker with the United States Coast Guard.
Through his previous work experiences, he has gone to the tenacious drizzle of the Pacific Northwest, the deserts and monsoons of the Desert Southwest, and the humidity and hurricanes of the Southeast. Moreover, he serves as a member of the American Meteorological Society. He holds the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society.
In addition, he attained the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation from the American Meteorological Society.
