DeForest started his on-air job in Austin, Minnesota working at KAAL-TV. While there, he was covering the annual Spam Jam festival. From there, he headed to Chattanooga, Tenn to work at WRCB-TV. In the course of his time there, he loved the environment, the barbecue, and the mountains.
