Alger serves as the Chief Meteorologist at KTVN-TV based in Reno, Nevada. Prior to joining KTVN-TV, he worked at KNDU-TV based in Washington where he served as a meteorologist. During his tenure working at KTVN-TV, he has covered a ton of extreme weather events all across the USA and beyond. For instance, he enclosed the 1990 President’s Day Blizzard, the 1997 New Year’s Flood, the mid- 1990sdrought, and the 2005 historic Snowstorms.
Alger has also won several awards and honors including the Associated Press Best Weathercast Award in 1995. In 2001, 1995, 1998, 1994, and 1996 Radio and Television News Directors Association Best Weathercast Award. In addition to that, he also worked at the Nevada Department of Transportation where he served as a consulting meteorologist.
Alger also worked for the Animal Ark, the Reno/Sparks Crisis Pregnancy Center where he was also on the board of directors. Moreover, he was also on the board of directors for the Truckee Meadows Law Enforcement Chaplaincy and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Green Ribbon Community Panel where he is the chairman.
Alger also loves serving his community and often volunteers in schools, events, and non-profit organizations. He went to Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington where he attained his degree in Geology and Chemistry. The American Meteorological Society honored Alger with his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist certification. He is also an active member of the AMS Board of Broadcast Meteorology.
