He began his career job at WJSU-TV in Anniston, Alabama on October 21, 1987. While there, he  worked as a news producer. He jumped at the chance of bringing morning news updates since no one else wanted to get up and be on at 4:20 a.m. Later he started anchoring and reporting the weekend news. From there, he moved to Birmingham in 1990 to work at WBMG-TV, the local CBS affiliate. During his time there, he reported during the week and anchored weekend newscasts.

Few years later he took a break to working in the family’s cabinet-making business. He thought he could walk away from television but it had gripped him firmly. He auditioned for a weekend weather job at WVTM-TV and his weather career was born.

Ferguson says that, since he joined WBRC, few things have changed. Currently Good Day Alabama airs five hours each weekday.  The show airs from 4 a.m. until 9 a.m. each weekday morning bringing weather, and traffic information.
