In this position that he assumed in December 2018, Alvarez anchors the First Alert 7’s morning show, ‘Wake Up West Texas.’ He joined the First Alert 7 News team in June 2016 as an Intern and officially began working as a full-time journalist in August 2016, where he was assigned the position of associate producer/digital content producer. Later in March 2017, Alvarez was assigned a new role, news producer, where he was responsible for leading newsroom assignment decisions and producing Primetime, the 6 pm and 10 pm weekday newscasts.
Between March 2018 and December 2018, Alvarez was the weekend anchor, senior reporter, and producer of all weekend programming. Among the accolades he has received are the Edward R. Murrow award for Breaking News Coverage, Media Spirit Award Winner from Hispanic Heritage of Odessa, Odessa Under 40 Honoree, and was also nominated for a Lone Star Emmy Award for ‘Continuing Coverage of Breaking News (2024).
