She would drive over from La Crosse together with her parents to visit my brother who lived here in ‘the big city. She would go right to Grand Avenue Mall and spend hours riding the escalator. It was the coolest thing, a mall with an escalator, she thought.

In addition to her career job, she liked giving her service to the community and she received a proclamation from the Mayor of Rockford declaring it “Mary Stoker Smith Day.” After the was announced, she moved to Philadelphia and became the main anchor at Tribune’s WB17.
During her working time in Philadelphia, she left and headed to KYW CBS 3. She served the station for almost four years as the weekend evening anchor. Stoker served as a general assignment reporter during the week covering three states; Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. While at KYW, she covered a wide range of stories including crime, features, fires, politics, and education. In addition to that, she was involved with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. She took part in events and an annual Mother’s Day weekend walk. The events were held at the famous Philadelphia Art Museum. Furthermore, she became a member of the National Association for Black Journalists during that time. She also likes hosting and emceeing the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Milwaukee’s Lakefront.
During her leisure time, she likes spending some quality time shopping, playing the piano, and reading, and also loves to take advantage of Milwaukee’s trails and lakefront.
