She rejoined the Channel 3 News team on August 31, 2021, having previously held positions as the Weekend News Anchor and General Assignments Reporter from 2000 to 2008. Esparra’s illustrious career includes significant accolades such as induction into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame in Akron, Ohio, in 2004, and winning an Emmy for Outstanding Weekend Newscast in 2007. Notably, she made history in 1997 as the first Latina news reporter at a Cleveland television station.

Recognized for her contributions to journalism, Esparra received the Robert G. McGruder Diversity in Media Distinguished Leadership Award from Kent State University in 2012. Her excellence in broadcasting earned her the title of “Ohio Television News Anchor of the Year” by the La Voz Media Alliance in 2014, along with the Coretta Scott King Award from the NAACP 34-AB.

Esparra gained international attention and an Emmy nomination in May 2013 for her coverage of the abduction and escape of Gina DeJesus, Amanda Berry, and Michelle Knight. Having followed the story since 2004, Esparra was deeply involved and was the first reporter granted an interview with Gina at her home. She has since been featured in numerous documentaries for her dedicated work on the case.

Before her tenure in Ohio, Esparra served as the Community Affairs Manager at WCIX-TV in Miami, Florida. She then moved to Georgia, where she worked as a Reporter/Anchor at WFXL-TV in Albany before becoming the Bureau Chief at WTVM-TV in Columbus. During her career, she conducted notable interviews with figures such as former President Jimmy Carter and Palestinian National Authority President Yasser Arafat.

In addition to her journalistic accomplishments, Esparra has had the opportunity to interview several U.S. Presidents, including George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and Vice President Dan Quayle. In 2022, Esparra was appointed as 3News’ Justice/Crime Correspondent, further solidifying her reputation as a respected journalist in the field.
