Ramirez has worked as a news reporter for KPIX 5 News. He worked as a reporter at KMST Channel 46 in Monterey and KOMO Channel 4 in Seattle, Washington before joining KPIX 5. He worked as a general assignment reporter for the San Jose newsroom at KSBW Channel 8 in Salinas. In 2003 he earned an Emmy award for Best Daytime Newscast reporting.
In 1985 and 1986 he was the recipient of two Best News Story awards from the Radio and Television News Directors Association. For breaking and investigative news he holds three other Emmy nominations. He has reported several major national and international stories during his career including the OJ Simpson murder trial, the Mexico City earthquake, and the Los Angeles riots.
Ramirez also specializes in reporting Santa Clara County for KPIX 5. He is a frequent guest speaker at San Jose’s Latino Role Model Conference. He encourages students to complete their education during his free time. Ramirez is a member of the California Chicano News Media Association and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. In 1983, he graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in journalism.
