Cotton began her journey at WKYC in 2016, initially as an audience engagement specialist before quickly transitioning to a role within the digital team as a content producer. By October 2020, she had risen to the position of Digital Reporter for the “What’s New” segment at 5 p.m., focusing on the latest in entertainment news during the “Pop Break” segment. Beyond entertainment, Kierra dedicated herself to creating stories centered on local businesses, the Black community, and distinctive personalities throughout Northeast Ohio.
Her career took another significant leap in 2022 when she became a full-time reporter for the Weekend Go! morning show and assumed the role of co-host on ‘We the People,’ WKYC’s show dedicated to community advocacy, working alongside Leon Bibb.
Throughout her tenure at WKYC, Kierra has covered a wide range of events, from celebrity gatherings to reporting on hurricanes, earning her three Emmy awards. Her award-winning work includes reporting on the East Cleveland house explosion, the Dayton mass shooting, and the progress of the LGBTQ community in Northeast Ohio. As a native of Cleveland, she takes pride in her work that highlights the city and its communities, which have been a significant part of her life.
In addition to her reporting duties, Kierra is an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists. Additionally, the Press Club of Cleveland further showcases her commitment to excellence in journalism and community engagement.
