Kathy Sabine Biography
Kathy Sabine is an American Emmy-Award-Winning Meteorologist working for 9News in Denver, Colorado as a Chief Meteorologist and the weekly lead forecaster on the 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10 p.m. newscast. She joined the station in the spring of 1993.

Sabine was born and raised in the United States to his loving and caring parents who she manages to keep information about away from the limelight. She was raised alongside her two sisters, Kimberly Maughan Womack and Wendy O’Sullivan. On the 14th of July 2020, she shared a photo of her late grandmother wishing her a Happy birthday stating that she would be 100 on that day is she was still alive. She stated that her grandma was very special to her and they even share the same birthday month. On the 22nd of June 2020 she went on to post a photo of her grandfather Bill stating that she was wishing him a Happy Father’s Day.

Sabine attended college to study to be a veterinarian and began working on her first degree in Veterinary Science at Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, California. It is later on that she made a switch to Journalism. Her work on her second degree in Meteorology began years later when she studied at Metropolitan State College located in Denver and at Mississippi State University.

Sabine works for 9News serving the station as a Chief Meteorologist. Aside from working for KUSA 9News, she may be heard forecasting on KOSI 101.1 and 89.5 KYGO. In addition to this, she produces daily forecasts for the Fort Collins Coloradoan newspaper. In addition to this, she writes daily weather forecasts on 9News.com.
After her graduation, she went straight ahead and began her career in television. Aside from her forecasting duties, she spent time anchoring the news, reporting, writing, and producing. This is in addition to spending time behind the scenes in production as a chyron operator, audio technician, tape operator, camera operator, and floor director.
She began her television career after her first degree and was working for NBC Affiliate located in San Luis Obispo. After this, she went on to work for ABC in Santa Barbara, Fox in Salinas/Monterey, and ABC in San Jose California. In addition to this, she has filled in on the Today Show in New York for AI Roker during the week and Chief Meteorologist Janice Huff from WNBC in New York on the weekend edition about three dozen times over the years.
She was featured in Zenith Woman, Sports Illustrated( the swimsuit edition! Heidi Klum is on the cover straddling the Equator), Rockies Magazine, Men’s Health, and HerLife Magazine. This is in addition to being featured in Colorado Dogs and Cats magazine, and The Weather Channel Calendar
She developed a love for the outdoors and nature in her hometown of Truckee. This is a small mountain town located in Northern California near Lake Tahoe. She learned skiing when she was about two and her family was greatly involved in the ski industry when she was a child. Aside from this, she was involved with horses and rodeo.
Away from work, one may find her exploring and enjoying the beautiful Colorado outdoors riding her horses, skiing, hiking, and running. She also loves spending her free time at local charities and animal shelters. This is in addition to visiting school classrooms and sharing knowledge of weather and environment with children. She is usually hoping to inspire girls to pursue a career in math and science.

In the course of her journalism career, Kathy has been privileged to receive seven Emmy Awards for best meteorologist. In addition to this, she was privileged to be nominated for her eighth Emmy Award. Sabine has also been privileged to win nine Colorado Broadcasting Award Winners.
She holds about five CBA Awards and two AP awards, with one being for news writing. She was also named as 2020’s best meteorologist by the Colorado Broadcasters Association(CBA). Aside from this, she was named the 2018 winner of the Heartland Emmy Award for best meteorologist.
Sabine has also been privileged to win awards for storm chasing and was privileged to be named best weathercaster by the Douglas County Newspaper organization in several editions. Kathy was named the favorite news personality by the Westword and 5280. The team also named her best weather anchor numerous times over the years.
Sabine is a proud foundation member of a youth cancer organization titled Teen With A Dream. In addition to this, she is involved with the National Western Stock Show, local 4H and FFA Organization, and the Colorado Horse Council. She is proud to announce that she has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Colorado Horse Council and the Colorado State Fair Foundation. She is also a proud member of the American Meteorological Society(AMS) and the National Weather Association(NWA) seal-holder.
