The series revolves around a set number of contestants living in isolation and surveillance in a villa in Mallorca, Spain. In order to avoid elimination, the contestants need to be e coupled up with another contestant whether it be for the prize money, love, friendship, or any other reason. On joining the villa in episode one, the islanders mingle and try “couple” since the constant who doesn’t find a partner is bound to be eliminated.
The method of elimination differs and could be through a public vote through the Love Island app whereby the viewers of the show get to vote on their favorite couple and the least favorite contestant. In the final week, the viewers get to vote on the winning couple that will receive the prize money of £50,000. The first series of Love Island premiered on 7 June 2015.
