Heyman is a baseball columnist and insider working for MLB Network in Secaucus, New Jersey. In Moline, Illinois, Heyman started as a sports reporter for The Daily Dispatch. Heyman worked for Newsday for 16 years as a sports columnist, baseball columnist, and New York Yankees beat reporter. Heyman wrote a baseball column for The Sporting News in 1999 and 2000. As of July 2006, Heyman worked for Sports Illustrated. Heyman covered baseball news year-round for Sports Illustrated and contributed to SI.com’s The Daily Scoop baseball notes section.
In the baseball season, The Daily Scoop was broadcast most weekdays, while in the offseason, it was broadcast twice a week. Heyman began working as a baseball insider for the newly established MLB Network in 2009. Heyman frequently penned an “Inside Baseball” column for Sports Illustrated. Following the 2011 MLB Winter Meetings, Heyman departed Sports Illustrated in December to report on baseball for CBS Sports. Heyman departed CBS Sports in 2016 to become a senior writer for Today’s Knuckleball and an MLB insider for the FanRag Sports Network.
Heyman began writing a baseball column for the New York Post in April 2022. Soon after, he and fellow baseball columnist for the New York Post Joel Sherman started a podcast called The Show. Heyman tweeted in December 2022, “Arson Judge appears headed to the Giants.” Giants say they haven’t heard about Aaron Judge, [My] apologies for rushing the gun, Heyman tweeted minutes after deleting the initial tweet.
