Lytle attended Northern Illinois University where he studied between 1978 and 1980. There, he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology. Afterwards, he went on to join Dallas Theological Seminary where he studied between 1984 and 1988. There he obtained a Masters in Theology(ThM) and was later ordained as a pastor.

Lytle works for Quen City News, serving the station as an On-Air meteorologist/Fill-in Weather Anchor. He states that he has a long history of weather as he is the oldest on his staff and is proud to admit that. Lytle states that he has worked in different markets ranging from Dallas, and Little Rock, to his longest stints in Rochester NY, and Charlotte. He states that he has worked his longest stints in Rochester NY, and here in Charlotte, the two adding up to around 30 years.
Aside from this, he serves as a Wedding Officiant a role he has been playing since the year 1995. In his role as a Wedding Officiant, he planned out and performed over a hundred ceremonies in 2012. He also did premarital counseling and walked couples through their wedding day and life thereafter. Between the month of April 2011 and October 2011, he was serving as a Part-time Meteorologist. Then, he was serving News 14 Carolina in Charlotte, North Carolina Area.
In addition to this, he was working for WBTV Charlotte as a Part-time Meteorologist. He worked for the team between 2008 and February 2011. While growing up, he was always fascinated by the weather. He states that he couldn’t get enough of weather from tornados to midwest blizzards to thunderstorms. Jim has highlighted that since then he knew he wanted to be a meteorologist.
Lytle states that he has the privilege of officiating myriads of marriages as a great side hustle. Aside from this, he stated that he is an avid gardener and has previously completed the Master Gardener training program through the cooperative extension in the late 90s in upstate, NY. Jim’s ideal weather happens to be winter and therefore the trade-off for him in the southern climate is the long growing season. He has stated that this is an awesome gardening climate. In addition to this, he states that it is so lush and that the variety of plants that grow there is remarkable, unlike any other place he has lived in.
Lytle highlights that the gorgeous countryside with four distinct seasons (winter by far shortest), Fascinating climate, and being just far enough north where snowstorms can happen is an ideal spot for a weather and plant guy. He has also stated that he hopes everybody enjoys as much as he does. Lytle is a huge fan of interacting with his people and is ready for anything that the Carolinas are ready to offer.
