Howard is a meteorologist at WITN-TV IN Greenville, North Carolina. His love and passion for his career began at a very young age. His grandfather would tell him these words, “There’s gonna be weather, whether or not” every time he would start talking about approaching snow. Growing up in Poughkeepsie, New York allowed Jim many opportunities to bug his family about the snow, and now living in North Carolina allows him to bug them about hurricanes as well.
During his childhood, he remembers looking out the airplane window his first time flying into West Palm Beach and turning to his mom and saying “look, there’s snow on the ground!” His mother gave him a funny smile but the turned into a frown when they stepped off the plane and Jim realized that the “snow” was sand, and the air felt like a furnace. This is just one of many experiences that fueled Jim’s desire to learn more about the earth’s atmosphere.
He landed his first on-air job in Panama City, Florida television station to work as a morning meteorologist. Howard secured thin this job within a week after joining college. Though he was happy about the job, there was a big problem. He would have to readjust his alarm clock from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m and then cold showers and strong coffee became a regular part of his morning.
When joining WITN-7 News as the meteorologist, he says, he was a fully transformed “morning person.” He says being a part of WITN-7 News at Sunrise has been rewarding beyond his expectations. He enjoys telling stories of the people of Nort Carolina who are as kind and generous as any he’s ever met. They also keep him on his toes. Howard has covered everything from flooding to severe thunderstorms to hurricanes and snow.
