He joined the WPVI-TV/6abc News team located in Philadelphia on the 1st of June 1976 where he was working as an anchor/reporter for the Action News at noon.

Jim is a proud graduate of Columbia University where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in the year 1970. After his graduation in the year 1970, he got an opportunity to work with WINS-TV in New York. The year 1972 saw him join WFAS Radio in White Plains, New York. Two years later down the line, he joined WKBW-TV in Buffalo where he kickstarted his television broadcast career.
Four more than four decades later he anchored his last 11 p.m. broadcast on the 11th of January 2022. However, he can still be found anchoring the 6 p.m. newscasts where he will be anchoring for the station’s evening news till his retirement at the end of the year 2022.
Through his wide career as an anchor/reporter, it is almost impossible to list down the major and or minor stories he has covered. However, he is most proud of the longevity and consistency in reporting for 6 and 11 days in and out for about four decades.
He is highly involved in the community in the community he lives in and loves giving back where he gives back to a variety of organizations. Gardner is most proud of the fact that one of the broadcast journalism students at Temple University was awarded the Jim Gardner Scholarship to help in paying for his or her education annually since the year 1987.
