Burns is a meteorologist at WSBT 22 News in South Bend, Indiana. She serves the station as a weekend morning meteorologist. Burns developed her love and passion for weather at a very young age. Having farmers on her mother’s side of the family, Jessica watched the weather on local news, specifically WSBT. She has loved science and had been an avid participant in theatre throughout her time in school.
Her love for weather helped her to take science and communicate it to her viewers to help them save their lives in the event of severe weather or plan their days. Burn’s favorite experiences during her college career included attending the meteorology department’s summer convective field study three years in a row. She experienced storm development and witnessed three tornadoes during these 10-day trips into the Great Plains. Burns loved taking pictures of storm structures, clouds, and gorgeous Plains sunsets during those trips.
Upon college graduation, she moved 10 hours away to start her career in television to work for WCYB in Bristol, VA. While there, she served the station as the weekend morning meteorologist. She also forecasted weather for two years in the Appalachian Mountains and while the mountains were beautiful. She says that she is thrilled to be back in the Midwest.
During her leisure time, she likes spending quality time with her cat, playing the piano, making progress on her Nintendo Switch, singing, drawing, reading, taking photos, as well as acting in musicals.
