He is also known for having played in MLB – Major League Baseball with the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants, Kansas City Royals, San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, and Philadelphia Phillies.

He helped lead the school’s football team to 2 state championships in the year 2000 and the year 2001 as a defensive back and wide receiver. He was offered a scholarship to play football at Clemson University as the wide receiver – but chose to pursue baseball instead. Francoeur was drafted by MLB in the first round (23rd overall) in the year 2002. He also led his high school baseball team to two state titles in the year 2001 and the year 2002. In October of the year 2022, he was inducted into the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame’s 1st class.

Baseball Career

As mentioned earlier, Francoeur has played for MLB’s New York Mets, Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, Kansas City Royals, and Miami Marlins. Francoeur joined the Braves in the year 2005 and impressed in his rookie season – he finished 3rd in “Rookie of the Year” voting. He had a solid career, playing for 11 more seasons with 7 different teams before retiring in the year 2016 after a brief time with the Marlins. Francoeur was known for his strong arm in the outfield and his free-swinging style at the plate. He won a Gold Glove Award in the year 2007. In March 2006, Francoeur played for Team USA in the 1st-ever World Baseball Classic – this was alongside his former Braves teammate Chipper Jones. He hit a double and scored a run in 6 at-bats.

Broadcasting Career

In May 2017, it was announced that Francoeur would join Fox Sports Southeast and Fox Sports South as a color analyst for select Atlanta Braves games. After his playing career ended, he became a broadcaster and is now one of the lead analysts for Braves games. In the year 2018, he replaced Joe Simpson as the lead TV analyst for the Braves.

Francoeur also works with TBS -there he provides analysis for NLDS, the NL Wild Card Game, and NLCS. In the year 2020, he worked on American League playoff games for TBS.
