Prior to working at KSL, he worked at WWTV/WWUP-TV 9&10 from 1993 to 1999 as an anchor and reporter. He anchored the news at 6 and 11 p.m. from Northern Michigan’s news leader. Boal also reported for another newscast at the CBS affiliate. Furthermore, he worked at WRBL-TV as an anchor and reporter from 1990 to 1993, during his time there, he anchored a weekend newscast at the CBS affiliate.

Before working at WRBL-TV, he worked at WOWL-TV from 1989 to 1990 as an anchor and reporter, while then, he anchored 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts for the NBC affiliate in Florence, Alabama. In 1993, Jed reported from Somalia while working in Columbus, Georgia, while soldiers from Ft. Benning assisted in restoring the nation’s damaged water and road infrastructure. Jed covers a wide range of topics for KSL, from Utah’s armed forces and public safety concerns to extreme weather and anything that sends him climbing mountains.
