Jay Towers Career

Towers is a morning anchor at FOX 2 Detroit and a host at iHeart Radio WNIC. His love and passion for working in the studio as a radio D.J began at the age of 5 years. At the age of 14 years old, he began his broadcasting journey working in Toms Rivers, New Jersey at WJRZ. When he turned 18, he landed his first full-time radio show in Atlantic City at WAYV and then at Boss 97. After some time, he left the Jersey Shore after his 20th birthday and became one of the youngest Program Directors in America at WMAX in Grand Rapids. One year later, he helped launch 93.1 WDRQ in Detroit.

He was called back to the east coast to serve as afternoon host and Music Director Q102 in Philadelphia, but he felt an attachment to the city of Detroit and returned to 93.1 DRQ in 1999 to host “Jay Towers and the Morning Revolution” until 2005. The next four years he spent at 97-1 The Ticket hosting the “Jay & Bill” show with Bill McAllister prior to making 100.3 WNIC his final radio stop in 2010. He hosts “Jay Towers in the Morning” on 100.3 WNIC every morning alongside Chelsea and Allyson.

Jay Towers FOX 2

Towers recall something that happened back in early 2004, he was in the lobby of the Fisher Building on a Saturday Morning to promote WDRQ’s ‘Lion King Musical’ Contest. It was the first day tickets went on sale and he was waiting to be interviewed by a Fox 2 reporter about a contest, but she never showed up. The photographer gave him an earpiece and he talked back to Deena Centofanti in the studio about all of the excitement in the lobby while interviewing the people in line. He was asked by the producer to do it a few more times that morning.

The following Monday Towers received a call from the News Director asking him if he would be willing to fill in for the next 2 weeks until they hired a new feature reporter, and that is how he ended up at FOX 2. While at FOX 2, he worked his way up through the rank from Feature Reporter to Weekend Anchor to Morning Anchor.

He comes across this question, how does he do both Morning TV and Radio Together every day? He thanks the good partnership between iHeart Radio and Fox 2, that he is lucky enough to have his WNIC radio studio with Allyson and Chelsea just a few steps away from the Fox 2 News Studio. When he disappears from Fox 2 News Morning for a few minutes, chances are he is in the studio next door talking on the radio.

Towers “Jay’s Juniors”

He is blessed with the opportunity by the Radio and TV to have a very big platform every day in Detroit and to be a part of countless charity events throughout the year but wanted to really use his voice to do something personally for himself. In addition to his story, he created the “Jay’s Juniors” program on WNIC in 2014.

The aim is to create a magical escape for children in Metro Detroit who suffer from terminal illnesses or chronic by taking the entire family on an all-expenses paid trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Since it started, he has been able to take 100 families on trips at Christmas time. Unfortunately, some of their Juniors have sadly passed away but their families hold on to some of the most special memories ever from their time together.
