Before coming to WCPO-TV, Shakur served as the reporter and fill-in anchor at WATN in Memphis, TN. Here, Shakur covered local politics, crime, education, and community rallies, and was on the frontline of the coverage on the police beating and death of Tyre Nichols. Occasionally, he reported on the community’s push for police reform and the subsequent changes in Memphis police leadership and policies. Prior to that, Shakur was the Dayside multimedia journalist at KTAL/NBC 6 in Shreveport, LA. In this role, he reported on gun laws in Tennessee and high-profile cases like the Eliza Fletcher abduction.
