Waldenberger was raised in Wisconsin, United States to his loving and caring parents who he posted a photo of on the 10th of May 2020 wishing her mother a Happy Mother’s Day. He was raised alongside his ten siblings who he shared a photo of on the 11th of April 2019. He states that he was raised on a family dairy farm and he and his siblings milked cows all winter long. This was even as the temperatures dropped below zero and snowstorms dropped multiple feet of snow.
George Waldenberger Education
Waldenberger states that it is at UCLA’s graduate school that he entered the weather workforce. He studied Meteorology at the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Department at UCLA. He has also worked as a graduate student researcher studying two major storms: Hurricane Andrew and the 1993 Storm of the Century. His job was mainly to manipulate the computer models in order to see how likely it was to make the storms even stronger. This was while earning his Master’s Degree. There, he studied between 2003 and 2005. He states that his diploma certificate has the signature of then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and counts this as a privilege.
Prior to this, he was a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he studied between 1995 and 1999. There, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Geological/Geophysical Engineering. While there, he was double majoring in Geological Engineering and Geology. He also designed a Lake Michigan coastal erosion mitigation system with a team of colleagues while at the University. This is in addition to working on landslide remediation projects in Southern California.
George Waldenberger Career
Waldenberger works with WFTV where he serves the station as a Meteorologist. He states that from Winter Storms to Winter Park, he was raised in Wisconsin and moved to Orlando for the wonderful winter weather. Waldenberger, however, further clarified that he loves all types of exciting weather. In the course of his career, he has forecasted snowstorms, heat waves in the Central Plains, thunderstorms, and ice storms in the Central Plains for about seven years.
Prior to joining the WFTV team, he was working with KSHB-TV 9 where he was serving the station as a Meteorologist. There, he worked between January 2010 and December 2012. He has had gigs in Tulsa, Kansas City, and Sioux City, Iowa, all of which are tornado alley areas. Waldenberger stated that these gigs serve as a good experience tracking the many Florida thunderstorms. He, however, stated that he didn’t start out as a meteorologist but rather as a farmer.
His first job after moving from college was not as a meteorologist either as he worked as a Geotechnical engineer. He has also worked at a firm that designed foundations for New York City skyscrapers. Waldenberger states that one of the projects set him trekking deep below the streets of Manhattan in order to monitor the construction vibrations on the Subway tracks.
He states that he had his approval pits for the construction of the foundation for a 44-story building. For him, it was a fascinating job but somewhere in his second year, he received an offer to attend UCLA’s graduate school. He is happy to familiarise himself with the Central Florida Area as he is new to the area.
