In October 2006, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Big Island. It was only centered a few miles from Kona where he and his then-fiancee were vacationing during the engagement celebration. He went on and reported from his hotel in the middle of chaos.

Ancken began his career at CBS affiliate WBNG-TV as an intern. While working at WMBC-TV in New Jersey, he covered the metro New York City area.  IN the course of his working time there, he learned to anchor, produce, report, edit, and shoot. In addition, he worked with ABC affiliate WWSB-TV in Sarasota as a reporter and anchor.

During his leisure time, he likes trekking through the temples of Thailand, the Alps of Switzerland, the Great Wall of China, the outback of Australia, the castles of Germany, as well as the Incan ruins of Macchu Picchu in Peru. He also enjoys traveling the world. In addition, he likes making home improvements, or on the water, as well as spending time with his wife and beautiful daughter, and son.
