Eric Kahnert is an American Anchor/Reporter working with CBS 8 News team where he serves the station as a Morning Anchor since May 2017. He anchors the morning news from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. in the Greater San Diego Area. Additionally, she also anchors the morning news from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the CW and the midday news from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on CBS.

The year 2020 saw him earn an Emmy award for the role of Best Anchor in the region along with numerous other nominations for his reporting. Additionally, the Radio and Television Association awarded the show the Best 60 Minuted Newscast in Southern California.

This was the first time a San Diego television won the award over a Los Angeles station in 14 years. Eric was also anchoring hours of non-stop coverage during the devastating Lilac Fire. This also contributed to an Emmy Award in the breaking news category.

Prior to CBS 8 News, he was working with the KMHG-TV, an ABC affiliate station located in Denver, Colorado. Here he was privileged to receive multiple Emmy awards for anchoring and reporting. These include numerous destructive and deadly storms and wildfires, and the Aurora theater shooting trial.

Additionally, he is also the first journalist in the country to mentor and train two developmentally disabled adults for them to become on-air local news reporters.

He is heavenly involved with MDA San Diego where he is serving as an organizer, and emcee of various events, and a fundraiser. The year 2018 saw him launch a community-driven campaign titled, Change It Up, which was featuring inspirational San Diegans going above and beyond to help the community.

Away from work, he enjoys spending time with family and or volunteering. He can also be found playing hockey or stuck in a sand trap while attempting to play golf.
