Emily Sutton is an American Meteorologist working for KFOR in Oklahoma City as a Storm Chaser and Morning Meteorologist. She has undertaken the role of Morning Meteorologist since January 2013.

Sutton works for KFOR-TV in Oklahoma where she serves the station as a Storm Chaser and Morning Meteorologist. She first joined the 4Warn Storm team on December 2oo9 making her the station’s first female meteorologist. Emily started her career at the station just a few weeks before Oklahoma City’s largest snowstorm, the “Christmas Eve Blizzard.” Since then, she has been experiencing extremes ever since.

After disguising herself while storm chasing live during the historic May 2013 tornado outbreaks, she continues to cover significant storms firsthand for KFOR-TV. Her storm chasing also gained national recognition with videos showcased on MSNBC, The Weather Channel, and CNN.

Her storm-chasing experiences were profiled by Sam Anderson for “The New York Times Magazine” and the blog “The 6th Floor.” Asides from this, she was also featured in a storm chasing article for “Popular Mechanics” Magazine. The KFOR’s team coverage of the May 20th, 2013 Moore tornado also won a National Emmy.

She states that her passion and interest for the weather started at a young age but weren’t realized until she joined the Storm Chase Team at the University of Missouri. there, she saw her first tornado in the year 2004. Sutton obtained honors and a dual degree in Media Coverage Convergence Journalism, and Atmospheric Sciences.

She kick-started her on-air career in the year 2007 at KMIZ-TV in Columbia, Missouri. Later on, she went on to join WCBY-TV in the Tri-Cities/Bristol, Tennessee where she was working as a meteorologist and general assignment reporter. It was while there that she learned about the dynamics of mountain weather and polished her reporting skills.

The year 2013 saw her being promoted to weekday mornings. She was privileged to be made a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist(CBM) by the American Meteorological Society(CBM). Asides from this, she has also been awarded the National Weather Association(NWA) Seal. Asides from this, she is also the only meteorologist in Oklahoma City with both seals.

Emily has been privileged to be awarded the “Best Meteorologist” title in OKC by So6ix Magazine. Asides from this, she was named Best of Enid, by Enid, and best of Norman by Norman. Asides from the weather, she enjoys singing and was honored to sing in front of thousands of Tennessee’s famous NASCAR track, Thunder basketball, and Oklahoma City Barons hockey.

Away from work, she enjoys dancing, racing in triathlons for charity, traveling, and cooking. She and Scott Hines crossed the finish line of their first IRONMAN triathlon(2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run) on November 16, 2014. Additionally, the duo headed TEAM OKLAHOMA and raised $200,000 for “The Go Mitch Go Foundation.” GMG happens to be an Oklahoma-born non-profit raising money for leukemia and lymphoma research.
