In 2017 Ella reported on the Wine Country Firestorm that decimated towns and claimed lives. She was on the ground for weeks meeting with survivors and sharing victims’ stories. In another fatal fire in 2016 she broke the news within minutes. This time at a warehouse called Ghost Ship in Oakland where 36 music lovers were tragically killed during a party inside a controversial live-work space. For the team coverage, KRON 4 news was recognized with an Emmy.
Sogomonian featured a former San Quentin inmate to promote criminal justice reform. The San Quentin inmate was hired by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative after completing a coding program with the non-profit The Last Mile while serving time. Before coming to the Bay Area, she reported and shot video by day, then produced and anchored the newscast by night for KECY-TV, daily in Yuma, Arizona.
While covering the U.S.-Mexico border, she was dedicated to reporting on border security, unearthing the mystery behind the multi-billion dollar agriculture industry, immigration, and Native tribes. She was then awarded for her coverage of worker shortages, water conservation, and technological advancements by both the Yuma County and Arizona Farm Bureaus.
