Dellinger works for Queen City News/FOX 46, serving the station as a Sunday Night Anchor and Weekday Reporter. While working with the station, he has been able to become the station’s chief reporter on several stories. This includes the saga over North Carolina’s District 9 2018 Congressional Race, the many local responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the largest-of-its-kind gas leak along the Huntersville section of Colonial Pipeline.
Before joining the Queen City News, he worked for WHNS-TV/FOX Carolina, serving the station as a Weekend Anchor and Reporter. He served the station in Greenville, South Carolina between January 2012 and October 2018. While there, he covered both North and South Carolina News. Between the years 2012 and 2016, he was covering major crime stories, anchoring and reporting live coverage on the life and passing of Reverend Billy Graham, and severe weather.
He has also previously worked for WBBH/WZVN-TV (NBC2/ABC7) where he served the station as a Reporter/Fill-In Anchor in Fort Myers, Florida. There, he worked between December 2009 and January 2012.
Some of his other career highlights include covering the numerous economic changes and challenges happening in the Tennessee Valley while working at the ABC station in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was one of the first interviews with former CIA director Porter Goss after the death of Osama bin Laden while working as a reporter and fill-in anchor at the NBC and ABC stations in Fort Myers, Florida.
Previously, Derek has also worked for WTVC-TV (NewsChannel9)/WDSI (Fox 61) where he served the station as a Reporter/Fill-In Anchor. His on-air career began at WRGC-AM located in Sylva, North Carolina. There he served the team as an On-Air Personality/Program Director between October 2000 and July 2004. As for his education, Dellinger attended The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he was taking a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and English Writing. He graduated from the institution in the year 2009.
