David Bromstad Biography

David Bromstad is an American Interior designer and television personality who is best known for winning the debut season of HGTV Design Star in 2006. He is also known for hosting HGTV’s My Lottery Dream Home, in which he helps lottery winners find their dream real estate property.

Bromstad is also the host of his own television show, Color Splash with David Bromstad, which debuted in March 2007 on HGTV, and also Color Splash Miami on HGTV which debuted in 2010.

Bromstad attended Wayzata High School where he was always interested in art and design and made a decision to pursue a career as a Disney animator. He then attended the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Upon graduating, Bromstad worked as a Disney illustrator.

Bromstad was urged by a friend to move to Miami Beach and tried out for HGTV’s Design Star, a reality show competition to pick a host for a new show on the HGTV cable network. On Design Star, he competed against nine other potential designers, winning the grand prize – a car, and the chance to host his own show on HGTV. In Color Splash’s 23rd episode, he noted that HGTV opted for a second set of 26 episodes.

He was a guest on the second season of HGTV Design Star, appearing as a guest judge in the first episode and providing moral support to the finalists in “Challenge 7: Island Dreams”.

In 2008, he became the spokesman for Mythic Paint. Additionally, he is a brand enthusiast for Miele home appliances.

Bromstad has three shows on HGTV: HGTV Design Star, where he has been a mentor from Season 6, and host from Season 7; HGTV’s My Lottery Dream Home; and HGTV’s Beach Flip. Currently, Bromstad has a line of home furniture and accessories available through Grandin Road, which is owned by HSN (Home Shopping Network).
