Growing up, she was raised alongside her three siblings with the oldest being her sister, Gabrielle Fulton Ponder. Her sister, Gabrielle Fulton Ponder went to Columbia University where she majored in History. When she was 4 years old, she joined dance classes after her mother convinced her to do so.

Danielle officially kickstarted her acting career in 2009 by appearing in several productions including The Real Tweenagers of Atlanta, Charlotte’s Web, and For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf. In 2012, she came out as a film actress by appearing in A Cross to Bear taking the role of a homeless, alcoholic mother. She later in appeared in several short films and TV series. Later in 2015, she appeared in Being Mary Jane season 2 and later in The Haves and the Have Nots taking the role of LaQuita “Quita” Maxwell. However, she left The Haves and the Have Nots in season 4 and started appearing in the films, The Leisure Seeker and Gifted as well as the TV series, Watchmen, Atlanta, and Greenleaf.
Soon after, at Aurora Theater, she took the role of an actress injured doing Shakespeare in Smart People. Later in 2018, she appeared in Jane and Emma taking the role of Jane Manning James. The following year (2019), she appeared in the thriller film The Devil To Pay, and in 2020 she appeared in the series Paradise Lost alongside Bridget Regan, Josh Hartnett, and Barbara Hershey. Still, in 2020, she appeared in P-Valley as well as FBI: Most Wanted.
The following year (2021), she appeared in the Netflix western film The Harder They Fall taking the role of Cuffe. Still,l in 2021, she took the role of Miranda Carroll on Station Eleven as well as From Scratch taking the role of Zora. In 2022, she appeared in Till taking the lead role of Mamie Till. Skipping to 2024, Danielle appeared in Parallel taking the lead role of Vanessa. She also took the leading role in a horror film named I Saw the TV Glow as Brenda. She also starred in The Piano Lesson, 40 Acres, Carry-On, and The Woman in the Yard.

In 2021, Deadwyler appeared in the American Western film, The Harder They Fall taking the role of Cuffe. This character was inspired by Cathay Williams, an African-American woman soldier. Cuffe was born to a free man and an enslaved woman hence making her a slave too. She worked in the Johnson plantation as a house slave on the outskirts of Jefferson City, Missouri. She was forced to serve in the army after Union forces occupied Jefferson City during the Civil War.
