Stevens serves WSVN as an anchor of 7 NEWS at 5, 6, 10, and 11 p.m. on weeknights with Belkys Nerey. He joined the 7News team in July 1992. Additionally, he has served the station for more than 3 decades. During his time at the station, he has reported a broad span of stories. For instance, a number of hurricanes such as “Andrew,” the Oklahoma City bombing, and elections from the local level to national races.

Counting the controversial 2000 Presidential Election from Austin, Texas. For weeks, he followed the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace and the manhunt for Andrew Cunanan. Also, he covered Pope John Paul II’s visits to Cuba and the United States, the demise of JFK, Jr., the Elian Gonzalez spiel, and Fidel Castro’s visit to the United Nations.

Moreover, he reported from Cuba the flag-raising at the U-S Embassy in Havana and the visit of Pope Francis in 2015. In addition to that, he served as an anchor for the 7NEWS broadcast of big happenings. For example, Jean-Bertrand Aristide’s return to Haiti, the crash of “Valujet” flight 592, the lethal shootdown of two “Brothers to the Rescue” planes, Castro’s transfer of power to his brother, the September 11th attacks, the launch of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, President Obama’s 2016 state visit to Havana.

Further, he anchored a number of successive hours of the broadcast of Castro’s demise and in 2018 the fatal mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. To boot, he played a crucial role in anchoring the far-reaching effects of the Corona Virus pandemic in South Florida. Throughout the 2020 election, he supplied South Florida viewers with interviews with President Trump, Former Vice-President Joe Biden, and Senator Kamala Harris.

In November 2020, for the fifth time, he and Belkys anchored the presidential election night broadcast. On a side note, they led the WSVN news stream for various hours of a local broadcast. In honor of celebrating the 65th anniversary of Channel 7, Stevens served as an executive producer and co-writer of a documentary to mark the event in 2021. Aside from WSVN.COM, it’s featured at the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives.​

Nonetheless, he debuted his career in 1987 when he served in the mailroom at NBC NEWS in Washington. By election night in 1988, he served in the NBC newsroom full-time as an assignment desk assistant when he was still a sophomore. Ultimately, he served on shows such as  “NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw,” “Today,” and “Meet the Press” as a production assistant.

Since 1990, he served the NBC affiliate in Fort Myers, WBBH as a reporter and a substitute anchor prior to WSVN. For a short period of time, he left WSVN in 1997 to serve WSVN’s Boston sister station, NBC affiliate WHDH as a reporter and a fill-in anchor for 2 years. On a side note, while he was serving WSVN much of his work was featured on WSVN.

In 1999, he rejoined WSVN and served as an anchor of the 5:30 and 6:30 newscasts and on weekends. Moreover, in May 2001 he took up his current duties. Actively, he serves as a member of several charities and organizations. Furthermore, he serves as an officer with the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Also, he serves as a chairperson of a board that mentors young TV professionals throughout the southeastern United States. Additionally, he serves as a National Trustee of the organization. In 2003, he served the Wilton Manors Stonewall Street Festival and Parade as grand marshal. Moreover, he served as a host of the yearly AIDS Walk Miami for a number of years.

The organization raises funds to endorse HIV awareness, testing, prevention, and treatment in the South Florida community. Stevens gained the award, for his years of dedicated service to the TV industry in the Sunshine State. Further, the readers of the South Florida Gay News dubbed him “Best Local TV Personality” in  2019, 2020, and 2021.

Additionally, the University of Miami dubbed him “Communicator of the Year” in 2009. Florida Monthly magazine dubbed him “Best Local TV News Anchor” in September 2015. The Broward/Palm Beach “New Times” awarded him “Best Local TV News Anchor” in 2003. In 2006, the city of Miami Beach presented him with a key to the city thus acknowledging his charitable efforts.

In 2016, Stevens debuted WSVN’s endeavors to better relations between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. Moreover, he served as a host of the “Hope and Healing” town hall meeting featuring members of Congress, state and local leaders, and members of the law enforcement community. On a side note, he resides in Greater Miami alongside his black labrador, Parker.
