Melvin is a news anchor for MSNBC/ FOX 10 News. He first joined NBC affiliate WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina as a high school student, where he worked from 1995 to 1997 as an “Our Generation Reporter”. In July 2001, he returned to WIS after graduating from college, this time working as a news photographer and producer, before becoming a reporter for the station’s morning news team, producing his “Craig Cam” live segments.
Afterward, Craig was promoted to a news anchor for the weekend morning newscast and the weekend evening newscasts before heading to the weekday newscasts. While at WIS-TV, he also created several series that covered issues affecting the homeless in Columbia and education among others. He then left WIS-TV in July 2008, to join NBC’s owned-and-operated station in Washington, D.C., WRC-TV. While at WRC-TV Melvin served as the weekend evening news anchor.
After working for three years, Melvin left WRC-TV in July 2011 and headed to work at MSNBC where he became a daytime anchor and also contributed to NBC News as a reporter. He anchored MSNBC’s coverage of the national conventions in 2012 for the Republican and Democratic parties and TV One’s Election Night coverage, in partnership with NBC News.
In 2016, Craig succeeded José Díaz-Balart as an anchor of MSNBC Live, which would become MSNBC Reports, and in 2017, he hosted his own true crime series Dateline: Secrets Uncovered which premiered on Oxygen on July 21. Melvin reported from Pyeongchang County for NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics in February 2018. In September he was also promoted to weekday news anchor on Today and formed the cast of hosts heading Today’s Third Hour in October. In December 2020, he co-hosted NBC’s annual broadcast of the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.
