During her assignment, she met a young Afghan who had stepped on an IED near her war-ravaged home. She was inspired to get involved with the Children of War Foundation which made the subsequent surgeries and prosthetics possible. Currently, she serves on the board and had traveled on missions to the Middle East, Haiti, and Ukraine.
