In 2003, he covered the tragic Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. After that report, Cristi headed to Orlando at the FOX affiliate and later to Miami at WSVN to launch his helicopter reporting career. During Hurricane Rita destroyed the Texas coastline in 2005, Cristi had to fly on a special assignment for CBS News. He chronicled the catastrophe as an airborne photojournalist.
