Cherise Leclerc Career
Leclerc works with WISN-TV where she serves the station as an Evening News Anchor for the Evening News at 5, 6, 10, and 11 PM. Asides from this, she does reports during the week. The Award-Winning journalist is a true New Englander at heart. She states that despite not being from New Hampshire, she states that the people there have made it feel like home for the past two years.
The Western Massachusetts native kick-started her broadcast career working as a production intern at the local PBS affiliate station in Springfield, WGBY. While there, she got the broadcast bug and it stuck with her ever since. During her time as a senior at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, she studied Communications and Spanish. This was while interning at CBS affiliate, CBS 3 Springfield.
During her time as an intern, she reported on the devastating aftermath of the June 11 tornado. Asides from this, she interviewed with then-Senator John Kerry who was touring a storm shelter. This news coverage eventually lead her to win the regional and then national Edward R. Murrow Award for breaking News Coverage.
Leclerc later rose through the ranks in Springfield and was made an Evening Anchor for the 4, 6, and 11 PM broadcasts. This was while working to keep a close relationship with the viewers of Western Mass. In her time as an anchor, she reported on the rebuilding of Springfield. This was after the tornado, the historic decision to legalize casino gaming in Massachusetts, and the subsequent development of MGM Springfield. She has also covered the manhunt following the Boston Marathon bombing and explosions in downtown Springfield among other stories that are important to the community.
Cherise was also the first to break the story that a gun linked to former Patriots player, Aaron Hernandez was found in a car during a traffic stop in Springfield. Later on, after anchoring through coverage of a deadly hospital standoff and breaking details while on the anchor desk through sources. She and her team working that night were awarded best spot news coverage from the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association.
Asides from this, she was voted the Top Television Personality to watch by Western Mass Women’s Magazine. She was also honored as a Top 40 under Forty award recipient by Business West Magazine. Asides from this, she hopes her love for covering community stories translates to the viewers in the Granite State. Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her best friend of 12 years, her Chihuahua. Leclerc has completed five marathons and is training for her first half-marathon.
