His on-air career job started in Fort Myers, Florida working for WINK.  While there, he worked his way up through the rank from associate producer writing script to a full-time reporter. From there, he headed to Miami in 1985 to work for WLTV. He served as a fill-in anchor and reporter.

During his time there, he covered several stories including the crash of a Delta plane in Dallas, the Statue of Liberty Centennial in New York, as well as Queen Elizabeth’s visit to the Bahamas. He moved to Miami to work at WPLG in 1987 where he covered Central American issues. Granda visited Cuba for a series on the Guantanamo Naval base and went to Panama during the overthrow of General Manuel Noriega.

In 1990, he headed to New York to work at WABC. While there, he served as the fill-in anchor for Eyewitness News this Morning. During the World Trade Center bombing, Granda was the first reporter on the scene and on the air to report the story.

The WNBC in New York hired him in 1993 to be its New Jersey correspondent prior to returning to Miami in 1995. While in Miami, he worked for WFOR, the CBS affiliate as an anchor. He has been nominated for an Emmy award-winning five times. After covering a series on the homeless called, “My Home is the Street,” he received an Emmy Award.
