Upon completion of his high school education, Newberry went on to join Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2015. Newberry serves KPRC as a news reporter. He joined the NBC 2 Houston team in July 2022. Prior to this, he served in Austin, Texas at KVUE as the transportation reporter and multimedia journalist from June 2019 to June 2022. During his time there, he provided coverage for the mass shooting in Midland-Odessa that claimed the lives of seven people, the aftereffects of Tropical Storm Imelda in Southeast Texas.
Also, he covered the disappearance of Austin’s mother, Heidi Broussard, and her newborn baby. Further, he reported live from the riots in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. Following his report on first responders’ lack of access to life-saving opioid overdose reversal medication, Austin city started funding doses for police officers during an aggressive incline in overdose-related deaths.
