Merano is an anchor of the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts at WCIA. She began his media career while a senior at SIU by working for Carterville, Illinois’s WSILTV. After earning a degree in journalism with honors from Southern Illinois University, he started to work as an associate producer before moving on to become a morning show photographer and reporter. Brandon joined the Illinois Air National Guard when he was 17 years old and served as an in-flight refueler, sometimes known as a “boom operator,” making more than a dozen deployments to the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. He is still employed by the Air National Guard as a lieutenant now.

Merano left WSIL after six years and a promotion to nightly anchor to work for three years as an anchor/reporter at KSDKTV in St. Louis and then as a reporter at WBBM in Chicago. Along the way, he received numerous regional Emmy nominations and won one in St. Louis. An avid Cardinal, Blues, Bears, and Bulls fan, Brandon is also. He has covered several Cardinal pennant races, the PGA Championship in 2018, and a Blues Stanley Cup Championship in 2019.

Working with people like Jennifer Roscoe, Jessica Kunz, Kevin Lighty, and his former college classmate and coworker Bret Behrens in central Illinois has made Brandon extremely happy. When Brandon isn’t working at WCIA 3, you can probably find him hanging out with his YorkiePoo Boomer, doing community service, or playing golf at one of the many courses in the region.
