Steffen is the Chief Meteorologist at WOOD-TV. He is familiar with Michigan since November 1974. He joined WZZM as a meteorologist, after graduating from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. In 1985, he became chief meteorologist, and in 2001 joined 24 Hour News 8.

He changed his position to chief meteorologist emeritus in July 2021. He’s very active in the West Michigan community and that’s why he has been honored with many broadcast awards. Steffen has worked with the Science Olympiad and the regional Math Counts Competition.

He is the chairman of the Red Cross Heroes Campaign, the board of directors for the Gerald R. Ford Boy Scout Council, the advisory board for Youth for Christ, and the marketing committee.
