After graduating from high school and earning his High School Diploma, he had to further his education. He joined the University of Florida to pursue his career course. After completing his studies there, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in political science.

During his senior year in college, he led the effort to bring back the long-lost F Book, a collection of university-based traditions that is, once again, bestowed to every incoming freshman. In addition to that, he was honored with an Outstanding Leader Award by the UF Alumni Association and also elected to the University of Florida Hall of Fame in 2006.

Shaban is a 16-time Emmy award-winning reporter, anchor, and correspondent at NBC Bay Area in California. He serves the station as an investigative reporter. Not long ago, he led the team to an investigation of the misuse of school police officers and captured the attention of top officials at the White House. That investigation helped a lot because it led to security changes in schools across the country.  It was also recognized with an  Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University award, the George Foster Peabody award, the Edward R. Murrow award, and two Emmy awards.

Before he began working in the Investigate Unit, he was working in Los Angeles as a correspondent for CBS News based there. While working there, he reported the network’s 24-hour affiliate news service. In addition to that, he also filed reports for CBS national broadcasts including CBS Sunday Morning, CBS This Morning, and The CBS Evening News.

He has been on the front lines of the nation’s biggest stories consistently including the devastating tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, and the Asiana plane crash in San Francisco. Throughout his career, he has covered some of the worst natural disasters, major political elections, and the Oscars in recent history. In addition to that, he was the network’s only credentialed correspondent inside the London games who led the CBS coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Prior to joining the NBC Bay Area News team, he worked for WVUE-TV (FOX) and WWL-TV (CBS) in New Orleans. He covered stories including changes in state and local law, police investigations, and government hearings. Shaban was the first reporter to break the news of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig leak in the Gulf of Mexico after the U.S. Coast Guard initially announced no such leak existed in 2010. Before his working time in New Orleans, he served at KGAN-TV (CBS) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. While there, he covered both national and local news including the presidential campaign trail.
