Ben Smith is an American Emmy-Award-Winning Meteorologist working for WHNT/Channel 19 News in Huntsville, Alabama as a Morning Meteorologist. He joined the station in April 2010.

Ben Smith Education
Smith states that he has always been interested in weather since grade school while tracking snowstorms up the east coast and doing weather on the morning announcements in high school. Later on, he went on to join East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. There, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and a minor in Geography in the year 1996. During his time working for WNCT, he went to school and received a certificate in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University.

Smith works with WHNT News 19 where he serves the station as a Meteorologist for News 19 This Morning. One may see him on the sidelines photographing high school and college football. He happens to be a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from Fredericksburg, Virginia.
He landed his first on-air job out of college at WNCT-TV in Greenville, North Carolina where he did weather for about five years. Smith also worked in Chattanooga and Birmingham where he was working at News 19’s sister station, WIAT between 2001 and 2003.
He has also worked for WSAV in Savannah, Georgia where he worked for about four years. There, he served the station as a Chief Meteorologist. Later on, he worked for WFTV in Orlando, Florida. He has been involved in the direct landfills of several hurricanes which include Bonnie, Fran, Floyd, Dennis, and Bertha in the year 1999. He was honored to be awarded the prestigious National Edward R. Murrow Award for continuous coverage of Hurricane Floyd along with his WNCT staff.
He holds a seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Smith also has the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist(CBM) seal of approval. He also serves on the National Weather Association seal evaluation committee. Away from work, he enjoys watching sports(the N.Y. Jets and Virginia Cavaliers). Asides from this, he enjoys going to church, the beach, and working out.
