Aura Mayari(real name Jay-R de Leon) is an American drag queen and artist of Filipino descent who will serve on the upcoming 15th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race as a competitor. Her drag name, “Aura” is Filipino gay patois which means someone who overreacts, is an attention seeker or is overly confident. Additionally, she chose the name as she felt it described her drag. On the other hand, “Mayari” originates from Kapampangan mythology where she’s the goddess of the moon and ruler of the world during nighttime. Further, she refers to herself as the “Filipina Moon Goddess.” The 15th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race is set to premiere on January 6th, 2023, on MTV at 8 p.m.

For instance, in January 2018 she partook in Venicci Drag brunch. In February 2018, she partook in the Love/Hate Valentine’s Brunch at Venicci. From July 2018 to February 2020, she served at Splash Chicago and partook in their various drag shows such as Sirens of Splash on Thursdays. The 15th season of the program features the largest cast in the show’s history where it has sixteen queens competing. Not only will the winner attain the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar, but will also attain a large cash prize, $200,000. Also, the show features an all-star panel judge; Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews, and Ts Madison, a recurring guest judge.
To boot, it stars guest judges including Ariana Grande, Ali Wong, Harvey Guillén, Amandla Stenberg, Julia Garner, Hayley Kiyoko, Janelle Monáe, Maren Morris, Megan Stalter, and Orville Peck. Additionally, Mayari was inspired to be a drag queen after viewing Manila Luzon compete in the third season of the program. In the program, she’s the second competitor to use the name ‘Aura’ after Aura Eternal from the 2nd season of Drag Race Italia.
